An FSB agent among the clergy of the UOC (MP) sentenced to 15 years for high treason — SBU

A UOC (MP) priest was sentenced to 15 years in prison for adjusting strikes in Donetsk region. The FSB recruited him through his daughter, who lives in Russia.

Based on materials from the SBU, an FSB agent who was detained by Ukrainian law enforcement officers in April 2025 in Donetsk region was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. He turned out to be a protopriest of the Pokrovsk Diocese of the UOC (Moscow Patriarchate) recruited by the Russians, UNN reports, citing the Security Service of Ukraine.

The cleric came to the FSB’s attention through his daughter, who lives in Russia. After the start of the full-scale invasion, she wrote to Putin requesting Russian citizenship for her mother and sister, who were in Ukraine.
Later, an FSB officer contacted the protopriest and offered cooperation in exchange for the "evacuation" of the priest’s family to the aggressor country, arranging Russian citizenship and promising money
The man moved around the frontline area in order to identify the locations of Ukrainian troops and "leak" them to his Russian handler. SBU officers detained the traitor at his place of residence. During the search, they seized a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the enemy.
The court found the detainee guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The article provides for imprisonment for up to fifteen years or life imprisonment, with confiscation of property.
