As of today, there are 500 foster parents with assistants in Ukraine who care for almost 1,000 children who, for various reasons, cannot be with their biological families. This is reported by UNN with reference to the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine in Telegram.
Details
Today, the foster care service is implemented in 295 communities. In 119 of them, it appeared for the first time — during the implementation of the project.
The leaders in the number of newly created foster families are Khmelnytskyi, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The number of families created has almost doubled in a year. At the beginning of 2024, less than 300 foster families worked in the communities. They had 638 children in temporary care. As noted in the Ministry of Social Policy, changes in the working conditions of educators and the project "Family for every child: development of family foster care" contributed to the involvement of new families.
In July last year, the Ministry of Social Policy increased the salaries of foster parents, introduced paid leave, and also the opportunity for the educator to have a paid assistant who is not a family member.
500 families is an ambitious achievement and the result of the joint efforts of many people. At the same time, this number is still not enough to provide children in every community with safe family upbringing. Therefore, we are moving forward. I urge those who have experience working with children to create foster families. Let us remind you
The Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft law on expanding the list of persons who cannot be adopters. It included, in particular, persons with mental disorders, who were convicted of crimes against the foundations of national security of Ukraine, committed domestic violence, or are citizens of the aggressor state.
