Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held her first meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and assured him that Tokyo would continue supporting Ukraine and maintaining sanctions against Russia. Earlier, the President of Ukraine spoke about the possibility of expanding cooperation with Japan, particularly in the areas of drones and air defense.
Japan has supported Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, but due to its own legal restrictions, it does not supply lethal weapons. Tokyo has provided Ukraine with non-lethal military equipment and generators and has joined planning for postwar reconstruction.
