According to the publication, citing secret intelligence data, Cuba has purchased more than 300 military drones and recently began discussing the possibility of using them for attacks on the American base at Guantanamo and the city of Key West in Florida, located approximately 150 km north of Havana.
The publication's source also reported that in the spring, Cuban authorities approached Russia and Iran with a request for additional supplies of drones and military equipment.
Such intelligence data is causing serious concern in Washington, where Cuba is viewed as a potential threat. According to a high-ranking official quoted by Axios, this could become grounds for a "military response."
On Thursday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe also recently visited Cuba and issued a stern warning to local authorities that the island can no longer be a "platform for adversaries trying to advance hostile interests in the Western Hemisphere," a CIA representative reported.
