According to authorities, the attack damaged a generator on the facility's perimeter. No casualties or radioactive leaks were recorded.

AP notes that the attack was likely carried out by Iranian-backed Shiite groups, which have previously used drones to strike Gulf nations following the outbreak of war between Israel, the US, and Iran.

Tensions around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz are rising

In recent weeks, the UAE has repeatedly accused Iran of drone and missile attacks, even after the ceasefire with the US took effect on April 8.

Against this backdrop, US President Donald Trump stated that he is ready to give Tehran a few more days to make progress in negotiations before Washington might resume military strikes.

Tensions also persist around the Strait of Hormuz, which is controlled by Iran. According to a maritime analytics company, shipping through the strait has more than doubled over the past week, but still remains significantly below pre-war levels.
