U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that simplifies the procedure for firing approximately 8,000 high-ranking federal employees. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

Details

The new executive order strips a portion of civil servants of job security guarantees. This primarily concerns high-ranking officials who earn nearly $200,000 a year and, according to the administration, have an influence on the formation or implementation of state policy.

Scott Kupor, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, stated that the administration seeks to ensure that its policy decisions are executed by the state apparatus.

"You can have whatever political views you want, but if you allow those views to essentially interfere with your willingness to actually carry out the lawful orders and policy directives of the administration, then this obviously creates a mechanism so that people in these agencies can be effectively terminated at will,"

he said.

The White House notes that approximately 8,000 employees will currently fall under the order, although it was previously estimated that the new rules could cover up to 50,000 federal employees. Senior administration officials stated that Trump does not currently plan to expand this list, but the possibility remains.

This move is a continuation of Trump's efforts to reform the federal apparatus. The President has repeatedly stated that some civil servants undermined the implementation of his policies during his first term. Meanwhile, federal employee unions and their allies challenged this policy in court back in January. The proceedings were suspended pending the finalization of the new rules by the U.S. administration.
