Truck rams cars and crashes into a cafe in Khmelnytskyi region – one dead and several injured, driver served with notice of suspicion

In the village of Pravdivka, a Mercedes driver crashed into parked cars and a cafe building. One woman died at the scene, and three people were hospitalized.

The accident occurred yesterday, May 31, around 3:00 PM in the village of Pravdivka.
According to the police, the 41-year-old driver of the Mercedes truck, a resident of the city of Horodok, lost control and drove the vehicle off the road onto the adjacent territory of the "Mamyna Khata" cafe, where he collided with parked Opel Zafira and Volkswagen Touran cars, after which he crashed into the building.
"As a result of the accident, a 51-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen car, a resident of the city of Zhytomyr, died at the scene from her injuries. The 61-year-old driver of this car and two other female passengers, aged 71 and 60, sustained physical injuries. All the injured were hospitalized at the Yarmolyntsi Multidisciplinary Hospital," the report says.
The driver of the Opel Zafira car was not injured.
Police officers detained the truck driver in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators from the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Police, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, have already served him a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 286 (Violation of road safety rules or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles that caused the death of the victim) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to 8 years in prison.
As part of the investigation, a number of forensic examinations have been ordered. Police are establishing all the circumstances and causes of the accident.
