On August 8, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant twice lost external power supply, and its own needs were switched to diesel generators. Energoatom emphasizes the risks to nuclear safety due to the Russian occupation of the plant.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant experienced a blackout twice on Saturday

On Saturday, August 8, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) lost external power twice. This is reported by the Energoatom company, according to UNN.

Details

It is noted that at 10:59, the 330 kV L-243 "Ferosplavna–ZaTES No. 1" overhead power line, which supplies power to the ZNPP’s auxiliary systems, was briefly disconnected.

The line was automatically reconnected at the "Ferosplavna" substation and remained energized. While the necessary procedures were being carried out, the plant’s auxiliary systems were powered by diesel generators. At 11:52, power to the ZNPP was restored

- the statement reads.

However, at 14:26, the plant once again lost external power. The ZNPP’s auxiliary systems were again switched to diesel-generator power. At 15:35, the auxiliary systems of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant were supplied with power from the 330 kV "Ferosplavna-1" overhead line. Thus, the plant’s external power supply was restored.

"The situation once again demonstrates the vulnerability of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant under Russian occupation. Any violations of the standard power-supply arrangements of a nuclear facility create additional risks to nuclear and radiation safety. The ZNPP’s continued operation under the illegal control of the Russian occupiers, who have no legitimate right to operate a Ukrainian nuclear facility, remains a constant threat factor," Energoatom stated.
