The new U.S. sanctions cover digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. Washington seeks to completely cut off Iran’s economic resources.

The United States has imposed sanctions on five key sectors of Iran

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled new sanctions against Iran and said they target five vital sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping, UNN reports, citing Le Figaro.

Bessent also warned that Washington intends to implement a "zero-leakage" policy in enforcing its economic sanctions against Iran.

He noted that U.S. President Donald Trump is calling foreign leaders to ask them to "stop trading with Iran" and sever their economic ties with Tehran. The U.S. government wants to "cut off all economic resources" that "keep this tyrannical Iranian regime alive," Bessent said while presenting a new round of sanctions against Tehran. Among other sectors, these measures will target gold, technology, aviation and shipping.

"The new sectoral sanctions decisions announced today target five vital sectors of Iran from which it derives profits abroad: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping," Scott Bessent said, warning of the "accelerated" prosecution of "anyone foolish enough" to trade with Iran.

"Iran faces a very clear choice, with only two possible paths: complete isolation and a subsistence economy, or a return to normal life with the possibility of rejoining the global economy," he also warned.
