The United States has approved the possible sale of $138 million worth of Hawk air defense system maintenance kits to Ukraine to strengthen Ukraine's security as a partner country.
The US State Department has approved the possible sale of $138 million worth of Hawk anti-aircraft missile systems maintenance kits to Ukraine. This was reported on Tuesday by the Agency for Security Cooperation of the US Department of Defense, UNN reports.
Details
The agency is responsible for the supply of military equipment and weapons abroad under intergovernmental contracts.
According to the statement, the Ukrainian government sent a request for "equipment and services" for the HAWK Phase III system worth $138 million.
On Tuesday, the US Congress was informed of the State Department's decision to approve the request.

Reuters, in turn, explains, citing a representative of the US Department of Foreign Affairs, that it is a sale of kits to Kyiv for "maintenance and modernization" of the above-mentioned complexes.
A statement from the Pentagon's Security Cooperation Agency claims that the sale of the equipment to Ukraine will serve to achieve "U.S. foreign policy and national security goals by strengthening the security of a partner country." It also claims that the delivery of Hawk maintenance kits "will not upset the basic military balance in the region" and "will not reduce the defense capabilities" of the United States itself.
