The Kremlin compared the French Navy's detention of the tanker Tagor to piracy

The Kremlin has called the French Navy's seizure of the tanker Tagor, which is under sanctions and linked to Russia's "shadow fleet," illegal and allegedly "bordering on piracy." This was reported by the BBC, according to UNN.

"We consider such actions illegal; they border on international piracy. We absolutely disagree that they are carried out in full compliance with international law," said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

Addendum

The tanker Tagor, which is under international sanctions, was detained in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday morning, French President Emmanuel Macron announced. In the United Kingdom (which imposed sanctions on the vessel in February), the Tagor is classified as part of Russia's "shadow fleet."

The captain of the tanker is reportedly a Russian citizen, TASS reports, citing the Russian Embassy in Paris. The French side did not notify the diplomatic mission of the actions taken regarding the tanker, the embassy added.

This is the third instance since the beginning of the year that France has detained a vessel suspected of involvement in the Russian "shadow fleet."
