Kyiv • UNN
Ukraine proposes to ban air transit to Russia and Belarus to prevent Russian businesses and tourists from using EU airspace and to increase sanctions pressure on the aggressor.
Ukraine's initiative to ban air travel to the Russian Federation and Belarus is to prevent Russian businesses and Russian tourists from using EU skies for their own purposes. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a telethon, UNN reports .
Our idea is that Russian business and Russian tourists should not be able to comfortably use the EU sky for their own purposes. The skies are closed to the Russian fleet, to the Belarusian fleet, but we are initiating and have discussed with our partners this idea of closing transit for any flights to and from Russia, as well as from and to Belarus,

That is why we will insist on introducing this type of sanctions. I am convinced that our partners from Lithuania, as well as Estonia and Latvia, will support our proposal. We will work with the European Commission on this,
