Putin was ready to make a deal a long time ago; I think some people prevented him — Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was ready to reach a deal a long time ago, but "some people" prevented him, UNN reports.

I talked about Ukraine. And I talked a little bit about Iran. He told me he'd like to get involved in the uranium enrichment program if he could help us implement it. I said I'd much rather have you get involved in ending the war with Ukraine. That would be more important to me because we're going to do that,

Trump said.

He added that Putin told him he also does not want Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.

I suggested a small truce, and I think he might go for it. He might announce something on that. Has he announced it yet? No, but I was just going to ask you about that. Yeah, no, I asked him about... even if it's a small truce, so many people are dying there, it's just absurd. I said, "Before you help me, I want to end your war." So we had a good talk. I've known him a long time. I think he was ready to make a deal a long time ago. I think some people stopped him from making a deal, but we talked more about Ukraine,

Trump added.

He also stated that the end of the wars in Ukraine and Iran might have a "similar timeline."

Trump also claimed that "Ukraine has suffered a military defeat," which you "won't learn from the 'fake news'," likely referring to Iran, as he added that "they had 159 ships," and now they are all at the bottom.

As a reminder

U.S. President Donald Trump told CNN on Wednesday that the wars in Iran and Ukraine could end on a "similar timeline" after a conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
