Modernization of NPPs and Chernobyl Zone Facilities - Ukraine and IAEA Will Cooperate to Develop Nuclear Energy

Ministry of Energy and IAEA Will Cooperate on Modernization of NPPs, Chernobyl, and Construction of New Units. Grossi Handed Over Methodology for NPPs During Wartime and Medical Vehicles.

Ministry of Energy and IAEA will cooperate in the reconstruction and development of Ukraine's nuclear power industry. Today First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal signed the relevant Memorandum with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi, UNN reports.
As Shmyhal reported, the document expands the framework of cooperation in the field of restoration of energy infrastructure and development of the nuclear sector.
In particular, in such areas:
- modernization of NPPs and Chernobyl zone facilities;
- restoration of power grid infrastructure critical for nuclear safety;
- facilitation of the construction of new power units, in particular at Khmelnytskyi NPP;
- support for the institutional restructuring of NAEK “Energoatom”.
During the meeting, Rafael Grossi handed over a unique methodology regarding the operation of nuclear power plants during wartime. We agreed on this in July last year. This unique IAEA document will become the basis of global experience and help prevent possible disasters
Separately, the Minister of Energy thanked the IAEA for providing two ambulance vehicles for the needs of South Ukraine NPP and Chernobyl NPP. This will enhance emergency response capabilities.
Shmyhal also thanked Grossi for the visit on the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster and for all the support provided.
