Magyar stated that he would not abandon Russian energy carriers and allowed for the lifting of sanctions against Russia after the war

The leader of the "Tisza" party and future Prime Minister of Hungary, Péter Magyar, stated that after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the European Union might lift sanctions against Russia. At the same time, he advocated for the diversification of energy supplies for Hungary. This was reported by the Hungarian publication 444, according to UNN.

During a press conference after his election victory, Magyar stated that the new government would seek to reduce the country's dependence on a single energy source.

The "Tisza" government will do everything possible to diversify energy resource purchases. It's cheaper and safer

— he emphasized.

At the same time, the politician acknowledged that the country's geographical location remains an important factor.

We cannot change geography. Russia will remain here, Hungary will remain here. This does not mean a complete break. We will buy oil where it is cheapest and safest

— said Magyar.

He also expressed hope for a change in the EU's sanctions policy after the end of the war.

I hope that when the Russian-Ukrainian war ends, the sanctions will be lifted, because Russia is our neighbor

— the politician stated.

Separately, Magyar noted that he advocates for human rights protection, but believes that the European Union should not "shoot itself in the foot" with decisions that harm its own economy.
