The Israel Defense Forces said it could strike Iran's nuclear facilities after weakening its allies in the region. The Israeli Air Force is increasing its readiness for potential strikes despite Iran's denial of developing nuclear weapons.

The Israel Defense Forces believes that after the weakening of Iranian proxy groups in the Middle East and the dramatic fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, there is an opportunity to strike Iran's nuclear facilities. Military officials said this on Thursday, reports UNN citing Times of Israel.

According to the publication, the Israeli Air Force continues to increase its readiness and training for such potential strikes against Iran.

The Israel Defense Forces also believes that Iran - isolated after the fall of the Assad regime and the weakening of its main proxy group Hezbollah in Lebanon - could continue its nuclear program and develop a bomb in an attempt to replace its deterrence.

The publication recalls that Iran has always denied attempts to develop nuclear weapons and claims that its space program and nuclear activities are solely for civilian purposes.

However, U.S. intelligence agencies and the IAEA claim that Iran had an organized military nuclear program until 2003 and continued to develop its nuclear program beyond civilian necessity. Israel argues that the Islamic Republic has never truly abandoned its nuclear weapons program, and many of its nuclear facilities are hidden beneath well-fortified mountains.
