Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian opened a new consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday, Syrian media reported, Reuters reported, UNN reported .

The new consulate is located next to the one destroyed by an Israeli airstrike last week.
Context
The strike, which leveled the consulate building next to the Iranian embassy and killed seven Iranian soldiers, including two senior commanders, was an escalation of Israeli attacks on Iranian interests in Syria along with the war in Gaza.
This drew condemnation from the United Nations and the European Union for strikes on diplomatic premises, and Iran vowed to retaliate.
