Today, on the second anniversary of the murder of Iryna Farion, a space in her memory was opened in the courtyard on Masaryk Street. In the center is a copper stele, slightly taller than a human. On its four faces are cut words associated with the life of Iryna Dmytrivna: language, freedom, nation, strength. Through them, a stone with twenty of her sayings is visible.
According to him, this is not a monument where flowers are left once a year. It needs to be read, explored, and discovered anew each time. Copper and stone will change under the influence of time and light. The words will remain.

On July 19, 2024, an unknown attacker shot the linguist and professor of Lviv Polytechnic, Iryna Farion. The woman was hospitalized in serious condition with a head injury, where she died.
Six days later, in Dnipro, an 18-year-old man was detained on suspicion of involvement in the murder of the linguist. The next day, law enforcement officers notified 18-year-old Vyacheslav Zinchenko of suspicion of Farion's murder.
The accused in the murder of Iryna Farion, Vyacheslav Zinchenko, stated that he was not offered a polygraph test. He added that he is ready to testify in court.
Iryna Farion's daughter, Sofia Semchyshyn, filed a lawsuit for compensation for moral damages in the amount of 15 million hryvnias against Vyacheslav Zinchenko, accused of murdering the linguist. The claimed amount, if received, will be transferred to the Ukrainian military for the purchase of drones.
