A rally of thousands was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one of the key states where the outcome of the vote will be decided. There, in Milwaukee, Trump was officially nominated last week as the Republican Party's presidential candidate.
Harris has not yet been officially nominated, but she had already secured the support of enough Democrats the day before and raised a record amount of donations in the first day after President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the race.
“Donald Trump wants to take our country backwards,” Harris told the crowd in Milwaukee, repeating what she had said the day before at her campaign headquarters. - Do we want to live in a country of freedom, compassion and the rule of law or a country of chaos, fear and hate?”
While US President Joe Biden during the campaign often spoke of Trump as a threat to democracy in a broad sense, Harris took a more personal approach, AFP notes, and cited her record as a California prosecutor dealing with what she called “predators” and “crooks” like the former president.
“I took on criminals of all stripes,” she said. - Predators who abused women. Scammers who defrauded consumers. Scammers who broke the rules for their own gain.
In her speech, Harris is quoted as saying she elaborated on the topic of abortion, pledging to “stop Trump's extreme bans” and stating, “We should trust women to make decisions about their bodies, not let the government tell them what to do.
Trump responded by condemning her for failing to deal with the immigration crisis at the border and said he wouldn't mind having a debate with her in September, when he was scheduled to meet with Biden on ABC News.
