First deliveries of ammunition to Ukraine under Czech initiative may be in June - Fiala
Kyiv • UNN
Ukraine may receive the first batches of ammunition under the Czech ammunition initiative as early as June, with contracts signed for about 500,000 large-caliber rounds.
Ukraine may receive the first shells from the Czech ammunition initiative in June this year. This was stated by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala during a press conference at NATO headquarters on April 17, UNN reports with reference to Voice of America.
Thanks to the Czech Ammunition Initiative, we can already buy about 500,000 large-caliber ammunition. Almost 200,000 are now contracted, and another 300,000 are being contracted. I think the first deliveries will be to Ukraine in June
He also said that after a visit to Washington earlier this week and meetings with President Joe Biden and Speaker Mike Johnson, he was optimistic that the United States would soon join in providing aid to Ukraine.
"I am somewhat optimistic that the aid package for Ukraine will be put to a vote and approved at the end of this week or next week. I hope that this optimism will be justified. It is very important for Ukraine, it is very important for our cooperation with the United States. It is very important for European security," Fiala said.
Addendum
Earlier, it was reported that the Czech Republic has already contracted 180,000 shells for Ukraine as part of its initiative. Work is underway to contract another 300 thousand.
