Bundestag suspends another major German Defense Ministry project due to sharp price increases

The Bundestag Budget Committee has blocked another German Ministry of Defense project promoted by Boris Pistorius. This was reported by BILD, according to UNN.
Details
The project involves the procurement of over 900 diesel containers for the Bundeswehr. While 153 such containers were ordered for 21.8 million euros in 2021, the new batch was expected to cost 262.67 million euros. The price per container has risen from 142,000 to 291,000 euros.
The containers are intended primarily for the brigade in Lithuania, and later for the rest of the army. The Bundeswehr expects to purchase up to 4,000 such containers, which could cost around 1 billion euros.
However, lawmakers were outraged that despite the increase in order volume, the price did not decrease but more than doubled. Furthermore, members of the Bundestag claim that similar containers on the market cost approximately 60,000 euros per unit.
As a result, lawmakers demanded that the Ministry of Defense return to the negotiating table with the manufacturer. They aim to achieve a price reduction and conduct competitive procurement in the future. Some deputies are already calling this case a textbook example of how the defense department "negotiates poorly with the defense industry" and "spends budget funds inefficiently."
