The minister also commented on the possibility of Germany's participation in a naval mission in the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, deployment is possible only after the cessation of hostilities and subject to obtaining a Bundestag mandate.
Pistorius noted that Germany could focus on mine countermeasures operations to ensure shipping safety.
Preparation for possible deployment
According to the minister, part of the forces are already planned to be pre-positioned in the Mediterranean Sea so that in case of a political decision, the mission can be started promptly.
At the same time, Germany is considering the possibility of adapting the EU "Aspides" mission mandate to extend its scope to the Persian Gulf.
