A brother and sister are detained in Kharkiv region for scouting railroad tracks to help Russian forces plan sabotage against Ukrainian arms supply trains.

Law enforcers foiled an enemy attempt to commit sabotage at strategic Ukrzaliznytsia facilities in Kharkiv region. As a result of the special operation, a brother and sister were detained who were reconnoitering the routes of the Armed Forces military echelons in the Liman direction. UNN reports this with reference to the SBU press service.

Details

According to the SBU, the offenders were most interested in "vulnerable" areas of rolling stock movement, such as railway bridges, overpasses and car tunnels under the tracks. The offenders also established the coordinates of relay cabinets and transformer substations of Ukrzaliznytsia.

The agents were to pass the information to their Russian supervisor in the form of geolocations of critical infrastructure on Google maps.

Based on this information, the invaders planned to carry out a sabotage on the railroad line while the Ukrainian Armed Forces freight train was moving. In this way, the occupiers hoped to disrupt the uninterrupted supply of Ukrainian weapons and ammunition to the front line of the eastern front

- the SBU said in a statement.

However, the entire agent group was exposed at the initial stage of its intelligence activities.  The defendants were detained while collecting intelligence for the occupiers.

According to the investigation, they were a brother and sister who worked together in a municipal institution in Izyum district.

In the summer of 2023, they came to the attention of a staff member of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (known as Gru) because of anti-Ukrainian posts on pro-Kremlin Telegram channels.

Addendum

SBU investigators have now served the defendants a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28 and Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).

The offenders are in custody. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
