An interactive map demonstrating the geography of cases of cannibalism documented by Soviet punitive authorities during the Holodomor of 1932-1933 has been published on the portal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As part of its cooperation with the Holodomor Museum, the Ministry of Internal Affairs digitized archival documents, on the basis of which experts created an electronic map. It contains copies of criminal cases and clearly illustrates the scale and horrors of the genocide committed against Ukrainians by the communist regime under Stalin's leadership.
"The electronic mapping tools show that the spread of cannibalism clearly coincides with the geography of the regions most affected by the Holodomor, which was previously identified by Ukrainian scientists. This once again confirms the peculiarities of the genocidal policy of the Soviet empire towards Ukraine and refutes the Russian myth of the all-Union famine in the USSR," the Interior Ministry said.
Last year, 1022 cases of cannibalism documented during the Holodomor of 1932-1933 were digitized. This year, the work in this direction continued: information on more than 1000 more cases that were destroyed in 1956 but partially preserved as short entries in the lists for destruction was added to the already digitized documents.
In total, there are now nearly 2,050 tragic stories that reveal the horrific truth about cannibalism and corpse eating during the genocide of the Ukrainian people.
The map is available here.
