Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to visit the White House on Monday, April 7. The purpose of the visit is to discuss the introduced tariffs with the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump. This is reported by Axios with reference to four sources, reports UNN.

Details

It is noted that if the visit takes place, Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet with Trump to discuss the abolition of tariffs. The leaders are also expected to touch on issues such as the Iranian nuclear program and the war in Gaza.

However, in order to make this visit this week, Netanyahu must ask the judges in his corruption trial to postpone the scheduled hearings at which he was to continue his testimony. Sources note that this plan may still change, including due to these court hearings.

The 17% tariff that Trump imposed on Israel was linked to a large bilateral trade deficit with the United States

- the publication writes.

According to Axios, Trump called Netanyahu and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Thursday, April 3, when Netanyahu was visiting Budapest. This call was triggered by Hungary's decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), but Netanyahu also raised the issue of the announced tariffs.

Trump invited Netanyahu to come to the White House to discuss this topic, without specifying an exact date. A few hours later, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that Netanyahu would soon visit Washington, "perhaps even next week"

- the post reads.

Initially, both sides expected the visit to take place later in April, probably during Passover, which begins on April 14.

Let us remind you

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, US President announced the introduction of new tariffs for certain countries. In particular, China - 34%, the European Union and Great Britain - 20%.

The new US import duties caused a wave of criticism from trade partners. Country leaders and businesses have declared negative consequences for the global economy.

US President Donald Trump introduced tariffs of at least 10% on Wednesday for almost the entire world, with one notable exception: Russia. The White House explained this in comments to American media.

Global stock markets fell after Trump announced new tariffs. Nike, Apple, H&M and other companies that depend on imports were the most affected.

The new US tariffs may trigger a global trade war. Ukraine needs to preserve free trade agreements, especially with the EU, and possibly start negotiations within the WTO.
