In the Sicilian city of Niscemi, dozens of houses are on the brink of collapse due to an active landslide caused by a powerful storm. The city, with a population of about 25,000, located on a plateau in south-central Sicily, has faced a gradual collapse of its slopes into the plain. After significant sections of the plateau were destroyed, buildings were left hanging over the precipice, and more than 1,500 people were forced to leave their homes.
Fabio Ciciliano, head of Italy's civil protection agency, confirmed that the situation remains critical as the ground movement has not stopped.
