Zelenskyy announces readiness to meet with Magyar and states work is underway on "all issues" regarding the Hungarian minority

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Bloomberg on Thursday that he would hold a bilateral meeting with the expected Prime Minister of Hungary, Péter Magyar, or meet with him "in some other format," UNN reports.

Zelenskyy, as the publication writes, also sought to downplay any potential friction in relations with Hungary, stating that Kyiv is working on resolving them.

"We are working on all issues concerning our Hungarian minority. They are our citizens, just like everyone else," Zelenskyy said in a telephone interview.

"Perhaps not everything is settled yet. But, frankly speaking, there is no real problem here," said the President of Ukraine.

Addendum

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the future leader of Hungary, Péter Magyar, wants the Hungarian national minority in Ukraine to be granted additional rights before approving Ukraine's official EU accession negotiations.

Magyar stated earlier this week that he wants to meet with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in June to discuss this issue. The goal was to improve the situation of the Hungarian minority in the Zakarpattia region in western Ukraine and to "support their ability to remain in their homeland," he said.

Ukraine has not yet confirmed any meeting, as Zelenskyy's schedule for June has not yet been finalized, his aide Dmytro Lytvyn told reporters this week.
