White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt shared Trump's message about NATO, in which the US president stated that the alliance "has been tested and failed."
"It is very sad that NATO has turned its back on the American people over the past six weeks," the White House spokeswoman told reporters.
"It was the American people who funded their defense," she noted.
Leavitt added that Trump looks forward to an "open and honest conversation" with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte later today in Washington.
