Trump's approval rating hits new low for his term amid conflict with Iran and rising prices

U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating has dropped to the lowest level of his current term – 34% of Americans view his job performance positively. This is evidenced by a Reuters/Ipsos poll, reports UNN.

Details

A previous poll showed 36% support, and at the beginning of his term in January 2025, this figure reached 47%. The study also recorded a drop in confidence in the president's economic policy – only 22% of respondents approve of his actions regarding the cost of living.

War and fuel prices pressure the rating

One of the key reasons for the decline in support is cited as the war with Iran, after the start of which gasoline prices in the U.S. rose by more than 40% – to approximately $4.18 per gallon. This has increased pressure on households and caused concern even among some Republicans.

According to the poll, 41% of Republican Party voters disapprove of Trump's policies regarding the cost of living, although overall 78% of Republicans continue to support him. At the same time, only 34% of Americans approve of U.S. actions in the conflict with Iran.

Among independent voters, Democrats have a 14-point lead in potential Congressional elections. Analysts note that rising prices and a protracted conflict could affect the balance of power ahead of the midterm elections.
