The Supreme Court upheld the sentence of a Kramatorsk resident who guided a Russian strike on a cafe, sentencing him to life imprisonment. The attack killed 13 people and injured 64 others. This refers to the missile strike on June 27, 2023, on the "Ria Lounge Bar" cafe in the center of Kramatorsk. According to the investigation, the man, for ideological reasons and at the request of an acquaintance connected with the occupation structures, checked information about the possible presence of military personnel in the establishment: he recorded people and cars and transmitted this data via Telegram to a representative of the aggressor state.
That same evening, Russian troops carried out a targeted missile strike.
Among the dead and wounded are both military personnel and civilians. Colombian citizens - Sergio Jaramillo, Héctor Abad, and Catalina Gómez - were also affected. Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina, who was with them, later died from her injuries.
In court, the accused admitted to transmitting the information but denied intending such consequences. The courts found that his actions were conscious and directly contributed to the strike.
He was found guilty of high treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced to life imprisonment. The Criminal Cassation Court of the Supreme Court confirmed that only the most severe punishment is just.
