The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a draft law to increase the number of the State Border Guard Service by 15,000 people within a year after the end or lifting of martial law in Ukraine.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a draft law that proposes to increase the number of the State Border Guard Service by 15 thousand people within a year from the date of termination or lifting of martial law in Ukraine. This was reported by the Permanent Representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk, UNN reports.

Details

He said that the draft law "On Amendments to Paragraph 1 of Section IX "Final Provisions" of the Law of Ukraine "On the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine" was approved. The document envisages setting the total number of SBGS employees within a year from the date of termination or lifting of martial law in Ukraine at 75 thousand people, including 67 thousand military personnel.

It is noted that the draft law was developed to take control of the state border within its internationally recognized borders in the post-war period and to adequately respond with the available forces and means of the State Border Guard Service to current and potential threats to national security at the state border.

Addendum

In March 2022, the Verkhovna Rada passed draft law No. 7161, which increased the total number of the State Border Guard Service by 7,000 people to 60,000, including 52,000 military personnel, during the special period.
