NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, tagesschau reports, would like Ukraine to join the defense alliance within the next decade. "I very much hope that Ukraine will be an ally," Stoltenberg said in an interview with the dpa news agency when asked about the possible expansion of the alliance in the next ten years.

In addition, ahead of the NATO summit in Washington, which will be held July 9-11, Stoltenberg, as DW notes, called for an increase in military aid to Ukraine.

"The stronger our support, the faster this war can end. The more committed we are to the long term, the faster the war can end," Stoltenberg said, quoted by tagesschau.

According to Stoltenberg, as DW notes, Russian President Vladimir Putin is pursuing a strategy of stalling in Ukraine, hoping to weaken the West's resolve.

"Putin thinks he can sit us out. We have to convince him that he can't sit us out, and then that will create the conditions to end the war," the NATO Secretary General said.
