The Investigative Committee of Armenia has announced the arrest of six parliamentary candidates from the pro-Russian "Strong Armenia" bloc in a case involving financial fraud and voter intimidation. This was reported by Deutsche Welle, according to UNN.

Details

The parliamentary candidates from the opposition alliance "Strong Armenia" are accused of complicity in obstructing the free will of citizens and money laundering on an especially large scale, the Investigative Committee of Armenia announced.

The Prosecutor General's Office had previously submitted a motion to the Central Election Commission to initiate a criminal case and received consent for the arrests.

The "Strong Armenia" bloc, created by the head of the "Tashir" group of companies, Russian billionaire of Armenian origin Samvel Karapetyan, is viewed by the Kremlin as a tool to counter Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who has set a course toward rapprochement with the European Union and the USA. According to The Insider, representatives of the SVR, GRU, and FSB are operating in Yerevan, and supporting pro-Russian political forces ahead of the elections is one of Moscow's key projects.
