Russia's attack on the Trypillia TPP: The X-69 is an improved version of the X-59. But the exact type of missile that struck is still being determined

The X-69 missile, which the Russian army allegedly used to hit and destroy the Tripoli thermal power plant, is an improved version of the X-59 with increased range, speed and warhead.
The X-69 missile, which the Russians allegedly used to strike the Tripoli TPP, is an improved version of the X-59 missile. However, it is still being established what kind of missile the Russians used to strike the TPP. This was reported by Air Force spokesman Ilya Yevlash during a telethon, UNN reports .
Details
"This is an improved system of the X-59 version. We are currently establishing what kind of missile it was, what type it was. Previously, Russia has used similar missiles before. These are fresh missiles, the parts for which were manufactured in 2023. So we see that Russia is constantly trying to produce new missiles, but everything depends on the success of their production. To what extent they will be able to provide themselves with various semiconductors, chips, microcircuits, and so on," Yevlash said.
He added that the X-69 missile is a fairly new missile for Ukraine's air defense system, so the military is studying how to counter it.
"And it is likely that Patriot will also be able to withstand it, as it has fought enough against more complex types of missiles such as Zircon and Kinzhal," added Yevlash.
For reference
In February of this year, experts from the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise examined the wreckage of the X-69 cruise missile used by the enemy to launch attacks on Ukraine for the first time.
"The main object of the study is the compartment where the warhead is located. This is the first time that the Institute's experts have examined a relevant sample of this type of missile. The surviving fragments have a minimal amount of microelectronics and any components of the control and guidance systems, but the markings on the body provide information about the date of manufacture at the end of 2023," said Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise.
He added that the X-69 is a modified Russian X-59MK2 missile with certain features.
The X-69 air-launched missile is the result of the X-59MK2 modification; it can be launched from fighters and bombers, and the range of carrier aircraft is extensive. The enemy began using this type of weapon on a more massive scale on the territory of Ukraine in 2023. A characteristic feature of the X-69 is the square hull section. In addition, the modified version has changed the range, flight speed, and warhead. A mandatory stage of the expert study will be the analysis of the materials of the missile body, as well as a specific foil placed under the outer skin of the warhead, which is likely to allow the missile to be airborne in the event of a hit by a warhead or any other high-speed elements," said Ruvin.
Recall
Yesterday, a missile attack by the Russian Federation destroyed the Tripillya thermal power plant. The media, citing their own sources, reported that the Russians used the latest X-69 subsonic missilesto strike the Tripoli TPP.
The chairman of the supervisory board of Centrenergo PJSC said that the restoration of the Tripoli thermal power plant, which was destroyed by a Russian missile strike, without providing Ukraine with air defense systems is "a futile exercise."
