A Russian military intelligence agent was detained in Zaporizhzhia, spying on the location and movement of Ukrainian warships near the port of Odesa.

SBU CI foiled the aggressor's plans to obtain relevant information about the Defense Forces in the Black Sea. As a result of a special operation in Zaporizhzhia, a Russian military intelligence agent was detained who was reconnoitering the locations and movements of Ukrainian warships. This was reported by the SBU press service, UNN reports .

Details

It is noted that the area of special attention of the spy was the basing points and routes to the open sea of armored artillery boats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

To gather intelligence, the offender acted under the guise of a truck driver engaged in interregional cargo transportation. While driving the truck, he entered the territory of ports to receive commercial cargo, but at the same time tried to covertly record the geolocation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces ships.

According to available data, the occupants hoped to obtain intelligence to plan military operations in the sea area of Ukraine. To prevent this, the SBU exposed the Russian agent in advance and documented his criminal activities in stages. This allowed us to take timely comprehensive measures to protect Ukrainian military vessels,

- the statement said.

The offender was detained red-handed when he was spying on Ukrainian Armed Forces ships near the Odesa seaport and trying to report to the aggressor. The investigation also revealed an additional task of the Russian agent - to spy on the ground units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Black Sea coast.

SBU investigators have served him a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
