Restrictions for trucks to be introduced on state roads due to heat

Seasonal traffic restrictions for heavy vehicles will be introduced on state-significant roads in Ukraine during periods of rising air temperatures. This was reported by the State Agency for Restoration, according to UNN.

These are temporary measures necessary to preserve the road surface during hot weather.

The restrictions will apply to heavy vehicles with an actual weight of over 24 tons and an axle load of over 7 tons. They will be implemented when the air temperature exceeds +28°C.

Such measures are explained by the fact that at high temperatures, asphalt concrete pavement becomes more vulnerable to loads. The movement of large-sized freight transport under such conditions can deform the roadbed and accelerate its destruction.

Appropriate road signs and information boards will be installed on state-significant highways, as well as on main logistics routes.

In addition, together with the National Police, Ukrtransbezpeka, local authorities, and owners of road service facilities, temporary parking areas for heavy vehicles will be designated for the duration of the restrictions.

At the same time, the restrictions will not apply to transport that:

• eliminates the consequences of emergency situations;

• carries dangerous goods;
• transports perishable products;
• transports live animals and poultry;
• carries out military transportation;
• delivers cargo for the needs of the Defense Forces.

Drivers and carriers are urged to take temporary restrictions into account when planning routes and to comply with the requirements of road signs.

They will be additionally notified about the start of seasonal restrictions and the locations for temporary parking of heavy vehicles.
