Putin cynically congratulated Trump and then struck Ukraine – Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that it was no coincidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated US President Donald Trump on his birthday before another massive attack on Ukraine. The head of state said this during a visit to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on June 15, UNN reports.

Details

According to Zelenskyy, Putin could have been counting on the conversation with the US President taking place first, so that during the greeting he would not have to react to a new Russian strike.

"I believe he expected that he would first congratulate the President of the United States of America. Certainly, if the attack had already occurred, the President's team and he himself, I think, would have raised this issue," Zelenskyy said.

The President emphasized that such a sequence of actions by the Kremlin is not accidental. Zelenskyy called Putin's behavior cynical, as Russia launched another massive strike on Ukraine following the diplomatic gesture.

"Therefore, as always, he absolutely cynically first congratulated the US President and after that absolutely cynically launched a massive strike on Ukraine. I think this is not accidental," the head of state noted.

Zelenskyy also stressed that Russia continues to demonstrate an unwillingness to end the war and uses attacks as a tool of pressure on Ukraine.
