The earthquake was felt in Calabria after midnight local time. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.2, with the epicenter located at a depth of 250 kilometers near Cosenza on the Tyrrhenian coast.
Tremors were also felt in Naples and some municipalities in the Vesuvius area, such as Portici, as far as the border with Salerno, as well as in Basilicata, especially in areas bordering Calabria, and in Puglia and Sicily.
In some areas, residents took to the streets and began calling both the regional civil protection service and the fire department, primarily for information. The regional civil protection operations center began contacting all mayors in the areas closest to the epicenter, such as Cetraro, Lamezia Terme, and Amantea, but no damage was reported.
In Cosenza, the situation is currently calm, with no requests for assistance. The situation is being constantly monitored, the publication writes.
Meanwhile, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), as reported by Reuters, recorded that the earthquake off the coast of southern Italy early Tuesday morning had a magnitude of 6.1 and was registered at a depth of 253 kilometers.
