Pentagon raises threat level over Israeli espionage targeting US officials - NBC News

The Pentagon is increasingly concerned about Israeli surveillance of U.S. officials, leading to the counterintelligence threat level being raised to its highest point. This was reported by UNN with reference to NBC News.

Details

According to U.S. officials speaking on condition of anonymity, the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) issued a new counterintelligence threat assessment amid growing tensions between Israel and the U.S. regarding further actions in the war with Iran. They reported that the DIA issued an internal notice, seen by one current official, in which the threat level from Israel was raised to "critical."

This decision is linked to fears within the Pentagon that Israel is making specific efforts to monitor high-ranking American officials to obtain information on internal discussions and decision-making by the Trump administration regarding conflicts in the Middle East

- the report states.

A spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in Washington stated that information suggesting Israel is spying on the U.S. is "absolutely false."

Israel does not collect intelligence on American organizations, let alone U.S. government officials. Israeli intelligence activities are directed against enemies, not allies. Any claims to the contrary are either false or politically motivated

 - he stated.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon declined to comment.

As a reminder

The U.S. and Iran exchanged strikes early Saturday morning local time, days after the publication of conflicting reports regarding the status of ceasefire negotiations.
