According to media reports, it happened in Shreveport, in the northwest of the state. The victims' ages ranged from one to approximately 14 years old. It is also reported that 10 people were injured.
The assailant later died. The incidents occurred in several houses, in three locations; some of the deceased children were related to the attacker.
After the shooting, the suspect stole a car and tried to escape, but was shot dead by police after a pursuit. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident, with the Louisiana State Police joining the investigation.
