Switzerland plans to hold a high-level peace conference on Ukraine in mid-June 2024, which is expected to be attended by US President Joe Biden, as well as representatives of 80-100 countries, mostly from the Global South.

US President Joe Biden is scheduled to attend a "peace" conference in Switzerland in mid-June 2024. This is reported by the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) - the newspaper cites "several reliable sources" but indicates that the final decision will be made as soon as possible, reports UNN.

Details

The "peace" summit in Switzerland may be attended by US President Joe Biden, who has not yet confirmed his participation in the US delegation at this stage, a spokeswoman for the US Embassy in Bern said when asked.  However, Switzerland and Ukraine have not yet sent out invitations, and a final commitment is usually made only as soon as possible, NZZ writes.

AddendumAddendum

The key question now is whether China will attend the meeting. Bloomberg's sources said that this is crucial for Switzerland, as Beijing's presence would make the initiative "credible." Ukraine's allies see China's participation as essential to the success of the conference, given the "influence" they say China exerts on the Kremlin regime.

To recap

Switzerland intends to hold a high-level peace conference on Ukraine in mid-June, with 80 to 100 countries, mostly from the so-called Global South, participating.
