In the Lviv region, the parents of a two-year-old boy who died of exhaustion and alcohol poisoning will stand trial

In the Lviv region, an indictment has been sent to court against the parents of a two-year-old boy who died after prolonged neglect. According to the investigation, the child was in a critical state of exhaustion and had acute alcohol intoxication. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to UNN.

Prosecutors of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor's Office have sent an indictment to court against the parents of a two-year-old boy who died after prolonged neglect. They are charged with malicious failure to fulfill child care duties, which resulted in grave consequences (Art. 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)

- the report states.

In early February of this year, the boy was taken to a hospital in Mostyska in critical condition. According to the investigation, the parents did not call for medical help themselves. The child was taken to the hospital by the godfather of one of the family's children at the father's request.

The boy was hospitalized in intensive care, but died about an hour later. The investigation established that the cause of death was a viral infection against a background of critical underweight, dehydration, and acute alcohol intoxication. The blood alcohol level in the two-year-old child was more than four times the legal limit for an adult.

In addition to the deceased boy, the 42-year-old mother and 43-year-old father have four other children: three daughters aged 4, 8, and 10, and a 6-year-old son.

After the child's death, prosecutors and police checked the family's living conditions. In the room where the minors lived, the temperature was only 11°C, and there were no means of heating.

The parents were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Addendum

Separately, in this proceeding, the actions of an employee of the Children's Services are being investigated. A few days after the boy's death, she was notified of suspicion of official negligence that caused the death of a person (Part 3 of Art. 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the official, who was supposed to carry out social supervision of the five minor children of this family, falsified reports for years and failed to actually check their living conditions.

As a result, the children remained without proper nutrition, care, and supervision for a long time, and the two-year-old boy did not receive medical assistance in time. The pre-trial investigation regarding the official is ongoing.

The guardianship and trusteeship body of the Mostyska City Council has applied to the court for the termination of parental rights for both parents. The other four children were removed by a decision of the executive committee of the territorial community. They are currently in one of the social support centers for children in Lviv.
