A 46-year-old man was found guilty of murdering a police officer and attempting to murder two people. The incident occurred in August 2025 in the Izmail district.
In the Odesa region, a 46-year-old man was sentenced on charges of murdering a police officer, as well as attempted murder of two individuals and illegal handling of weapons. This was reported by UNN citing the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Details
The suspect admitted guilt only regarding the illegal handling of weapons. At the same time, prosecutors proved his involvement in the attack on law enforcement officers and the murder of one of them through a body of collected evidence.
The investigation established that in 2014, the man purchased a 9 mm caliber traumatic revolver in Izmail, which he later converted into a firearm.
He also independently manufactured 13 cartridges suitable for firing from this revolver. He stored the weapon and ammunition at home without the legally required permit.
In August 2025, the man was riding a moped along a field road in one of the villages of the Izmail district. A patrol police crew was moving towards him. Since the driver was operating the moped without a motorcycle helmet, the police officers signaled him to stop. The man ignored the demand, turned around, and attempted to flee, but lost control and fell. When the police officers approached him, he drew a revolver and opened fire on the service vehicle. After that, he walked around the vehicle and shot one of the law enforcement officers. The police officer used his service weapon and wounded the attacker. Then another law enforcement officer detained him
The wounded police officer could not be saved — he died in the hospital.
The detained man was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 15, Paragraph 1 of Part 2 of Article 115, Part 1 of Article 263, Part 1 of Article 263-1, and Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns attempted premeditated murder of two or more persons, illegal handling of weapons, illegal manufacture, conversion, or repair of firearms, and encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer in connection with the performance of their official duties.
The sanction of the articles provides for a long term of imprisonment, up to life imprisonment.
