Heorhiy Tykhyi is the new spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. He used to work in the media, but over the past few years has been building a career in government communications.

Heorhiy Tykhyi has become the new spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. He has been working in the media since 2008, and in 2014 he joined the coverage of the war in Ukraine. This was reported to UNN by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

Details

Heorhiy Tykhyi studied at Kyiv Lyceum #38 named after Molchanov. In 2006, he entered the Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Technologies at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

Tychyi received his bachelor's degree there, and in 2012 he received his master's degree in political science. From 2012 to 2015 he was a postgraduate student at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. His research interests include the metaphor of political discourse, cognitive linguistics, and the politics of memory in Ukraine.

In parallel with his studies, in 2008 he already worked in the media: he was an editor and reporter on Savik Shuster's programs (2008-2013), a producer of the first German TV channel ARD in Ukraine (2014-2018), and a correspondent for the National News Agency Ukrinform (2018-2019).

Later, in 2014, he covered the events of the Revolution of Dignity and the beginning of Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine for German television. In August 2014, together with his colleague Ivan Lyubysh-Kirdey, he was surrounded in Ilovaisk, where he made a documentary about Ukrainian volunteer heroes in the besieged city.

In 2018, Heorhiy Tykhyi founded the Ukrinform bureau in New York. 

Tychyi began his work in government communications in 2019. He first served as   press secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration (October 2019 - March 2020), and later as communications advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba (March 2020 - July 2024).

Since July 2024, Heorhiy Tykhyi has been the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Recall

The previous spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleh Nikolenko, announced his resignation from the postafter 3.5 years in office. As it became known, he was  appointed Consul General of Ukraine in Toronto.
