Syria's General Command has appointed two new ministers from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham opposition group. Asaad Hassan al-Shibani became the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Markhaf Abu Qasra became the Minister of Defense.

The rebels who overthrew Bashar al-Assad's regime are seeking to regulate the country's political life as soon as possible. The ruling General Command has appointed Asaad Hassan al-Shibani as the new Foreign Minister. According to media reports, Sheibani is a graduate of the Faculty of English Language and Literature at the University of Damascus. Since the beginning of the war in the country in 2011, Sheibani has been actively involved in the activities of the Syrian opposition.

During the war, about two-thirds of the country's territory was under the control of government forces, dpa reminds, while northwestern Syria has been under the control of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) since 2017. In this "administration", Sheibani served as the head of the political affairs department. He was responsible for "interaction with representatives of foreign states and international organizations, including UN agencies and humanitarian organizations".

Syria's new Defense Minister Abu Qasra was born in the city of Halfaja in Hama province, dpa reports. He is one of the most prominent leaders of the HTS.
