The President of Turkey discussed with the NATO Secretary General efforts to end the war through diplomatic means. Ankara is working to organize leaders' negotiations.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that Ankara is working to resume negotiations between Ukraine and Russia and organize a meeting of leaders. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the administration of the President of Turkey, writes UNN.

The meeting took place in Ankara. According to the Turkish side, Erdoğan emphasized the desire to achieve an end to the war through diplomatic means.

Earlier, Kyiv appealed to Turkey with a request to act as a platform for negotiations at the level of heads of state.
Turkey's role and NATO's position
Ankara has maintained contacts with both Ukraine and Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war in 2022 and has repeatedly acted as a mediator.
During the conversation with Rutte, Erdoğan also emphasized the importance of transatlantic ties, calling them "indispensable," and called on European NATO countries to participate more actively in ensuring security.
Conversation with the German Chancellor
After the meeting with the NATO Secretary General, Erdoğan had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
During the conversation, the Turkish president stated that the war between the US and Iran "is beginning to weaken Europe" and warned of growing negative consequences in the absence of diplomatic intervention.
According to him, Turkey is simultaneously working to end conflicts both between Ukraine and Russia, and regarding the situation around Iran.
