Cocaine smuggled under the guise of laundry detergent: drug smuggling channel eliminated in Odesa

Law enforcement officers detained two people involved in cocaine smuggling from the Netherlands to Ukraine. A kilogram of the drug worth over UAH 2.3 million was seized, and the suspects face up to 12 years in prison.

In Odesa, law enforcement officers exposed two people involved in international drug trafficking and seized cocaine worth over UAH 2,300,000. Both suspects were served with a notice of suspicion. This was stated by the National Police of Ukraine, reports UNN.

Details

Investigators found out that , a resident of Odesa, had organized drug smuggling from the Netherlands. He bought a kilogram of drugs there and engaged his friend as a courier to deliver them to Ukraine. 

The woman drove abroad in her own car and picked up the package from the seller. In order not to attract attention during customs control, she hid the goods in laundry detergent boxes. 

Operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Odesa city of the National Police and investigators of the SBU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region detained two criminals in Odesa.

They seized a kilogram of cocaine worth over UAH 2,300,000 at black market prices. 

Both defendants were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 305 (smuggling of narcotic drugs) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine

The detainees face punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 10 to 12 years with confiscation of property. The man is currently in custody, the woman is under round-the-clock house arrest.

The SBU reported the destruction of more than a ton of heroinconfiscated in 2021. Drugs worth UAH 2.3 billion were found in Lviv during a special operation against a transnational criminal group.
