Context
The Ukrainian defender received monetary compensation for a serious injury in the war zone. He is undergoing rehabilitation at home - his wife takes care of him.
According to the investigation, the man, who has a criminal record for assault, organized a scheme to extort funds from a wounded serviceman.
The defendant involved a friend and a neighbor of the victim in the plan of his actions.
The accomplices understood that the man's legs were injured, so he would not be able to resist. Late in the evening, they came to the couple's home and demanded to transfer 3,000 US dollars to the so-called "thieves' common room".
In case of refusal, they were threatened with physical violence.
For two weeks, the suspects exerted psychological pressure on the victims, came with a knife and threatened to stab them. The wife of a military man, fearing for her life, gave them 10,000 hryvnias.
After that, a 15-day deadline was set for paying the remainder.
Law enforcement officers detained the accomplices after transferring the agreed amount of funds.
The seized property and mobile phones with evidence of illegal activities were seized from them.
They were informed of suspicion of extortion combined with threats of violence (Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Now all the suspects have been taken into custody without the right to pay bail.
