Parents of an infant sought help at the Transcarpathian Regional Children's Hospital complaining of a cough. However, within a few hours, the 5-month-old child died in intensive care. Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the tragedy, as reported by the Main Department of the National Police of Transcarpathian Oblast and the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office, writes UNN.

Around 8 PM on January 23, a boy was hospitalized due to deteriorating health and a cough. The parents brought the child to the emergency room. According to them, there had been no previous complaints about the baby's condition.

A few hours after the infant was admitted to the medical facility, the baby's condition sharply deteriorated, and he was transferred to the intensive care unit. After midnight, doctors pronounced the 5-month-old child dead, which was reported to the police by the 21-year-old father.

The police note that the baby was born prematurely and had previously been undergoing long-term treatment due to respiratory problems.

Currently, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – improper performance of professional duties by a medical worker, which led to grave consequences in the form of death.

A forensic medical examination has also been appointed in the case. Law enforcement officers are seizing documentation from the hospital, conducting interrogations, and have scheduled a clinical and expert commission.
