US President Donald Trump intends to receive President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday for separate meetings, which are expected to focus on the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, a White House official told CNN.
Trump will meet with Netanyahu to discuss the war with Iran, progress in negotiations with Lebanon, and efforts to expand the Abraham Accords, a White House official said.
Trump acknowledged that he and Netanyahu do not fully agree on Iran, but said the two leaders remain closely connected. "We have small differences, but quite close," Trump told reporters on Monday.
During Trump's meeting with Zelenskyy, the leaders will discuss the ongoing peace process between Russia and Ukraine, according to the official. "Now is the time to end the war," the official added.
"9:30 AM Eastern Time: Trump meets with President of Ukraine Zelenskyy (closed to press)," published the schedule DW journalist Mykhailo Komadovsky on X, indicating that the meeting is expected in the Oval Office at the White House.
Earlier on Monday, Trump, as CNN notes, downplayed Zelenskyy's claims that Russia is providing Iran with intelligence data on US military bases, saying: "I don't think they did that, certainly not at a high level."
Both Netanyahu and Zelenskyy plan to attend the funeral of the late Senator Lindsey Graham in Washington on Tuesday.
A meeting of Zelenskyy with senators is also expected.
All 100 senators have been invited to a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday evening at the US Capitol, several sources confirmed to The Hill. The meeting was first reported by Punchbowl News.
The meeting takes place against the backdrop of the Senate considering a bill that provides for the introduction of tougher sanctions against Russia and its trading partners in response to the continuation of the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine.
